The Weird West (press release)

Ronan O’Hanlon better know as hit/her or “gay Hitler” to his audience (or as he refers to them “victims”) has caused much controversy and discussion amongst the good people of Hastings and St Leonard’s in the short time since his recent arrival.

His expressionist work delves into themes of identity, transformation, politics, and the human experience.

He has attracted much scorn and disgust from his fellow artistic peers and the critics alike who make claims of supposed fascism for his tendency to present his work and events in drag as gay Hitler or as he refers to the character “hit/her”. In response to these claims Ronan argues “Hitler would also hate my exhibition.”

The Weird West is O’Hanlon’s latest series of exhibitions that began in Amman, Jordan, observing, critiquing and crying over the death of the West.

Ronan has ensnared respectable established local artists (or as Ronan refers to them, “cougars”) Ella Guru and Georgina Fox into joining his circus at independent record shop Tough Love at its new location on London Road.

Ella Guru is a founding member of the Stuckist art movement, and is no stranger to clowning nor controversy, as the group was well known in its day for its Turner Prize protests. Her subject matter overlaps religious overtones and social degeneracy, though her work is far more refined and dipped in the ink of the old masters than that of her “roguish” headliner.

Like Ella, Georgina Fox is a beloved member of the community, running her gallery the Ochre Fox, where she holds workshops as well as exhibiting the work of local artists. Georgina’s large scale clown portraits speak volumes about the company she keeps.

Miss Fox was overheard on the beach telling Ella she was “terrified” to which Ella said, “so am I!”, before Ronan fell over on both of them.

Where upon Ronan accused me of being a lizard (a reptilian-humanoid entity, who he claims exists solely to destroy the last gasps of the human spirit). I then concluded the interview.

If you have any sympathy for these two poor artists who have been swindled into collaboration with this egotistical megalomaniac art terrorist, please rescue Ella and Georgina from “gay Hitler” between 6 and 10 pm on Saturday 19 September at Tough Love, 8 London Road TN37 6AE.
